miles whittaker has been an integral part of the modern love label since its inception in 2002 - as one half of both pendle coven and demdike stare, as well as his own productions under the mlz and millie monikers. after almost 15 years writing music, this is the first release miles is putting out under his own name and marks a turning point of sorts in his production style, or rather, in its sequencing. the facets ep brings together different ends of his production style, unifying elements of the house and techno he s most commonly released as mlz together with the more broken production signatures usually reserved for millie and the darkened tribalism of demdike stare. flawed opens the set with a linn loop from the archives, stretched and slowed down with an intoxicated aesthetic that s somewhere between house and dub, before lustre re-configures source material originally keyed in by labelmate andy stott with a nice line in squashed percussion. primer on the flip extends from a demdike stare outtake and veers off into an analogue drum machine workout, before on the fly ends the set with a recording made straight to mixing desk from an array of mis-wired and malfunctioning drum boxes, contact microphones and samplers, over at his studio the mill earlier this year.

seiji – the much-lauded and respected producer from west london – returns with the penultimate part of his 2010-launched seiji series. having successfully explored a career path thats established him as a founding member of broken beat originators bugz in the attic, a key artist for the seminal jungle/d n b label reinforced, a downbeat solo artist for sonar kollectiv and a producer and co-writer for the brilliant roisin murphy, in 2011 seiji is a man focused squarely on the dancefloor. the seiji series is just one part of that with seiji stripping things right back, identifying each release with a simple number and putting all his energy into creating music that he truly believes in. a merging of sounds and influences that have always been with him, but have never sounded so right – encapsulating everything thats exciting about the underground uk scene at the moment. as with the previous two releases, seiji 4 is a double a-side focusing on the current uk house sound, a bit soulful, a bit funky a bit jacking, with two solid heavy grooves that are going to work on any house dance floor. no other has a really soulful vocal sample, a rolling reese bass riff and percussive uk house beats. easy is more of an infectious skippy house groove with a chunky bass hook and deep techno pads

the next coup by sirion records is from none other than one of the founding fathers, fedja haueter aka feodor and his fellows alex torriglia aka mo-tek and beni dossenbach aka balance. the trio, better known as vol-tek, has played a key role since the very beginnings of sirion s musical outpours and was represented in sr001 with a remix. numerous remixes and their own release sr005 - vol-tek - male & female are further to be mentioned. a part from sirion records the trio was represented at friends labels such as cristian paduraru or samy freshs augenringe records. but their next big thing is yet to come, as the threesome has been finishing tracks throughout the past year and surely need to be reckoned with in the future. the tracks after dark and conciliator are both rather deep, playful tech-house gimmicks, enriched with a bit of progressive.

fragen documents the extraordinary shedding of skin of one of the most important german electronic groups. hans-joachim roedelius was there from the beginning, first as a trio with conrad schnitzler and dieter moebius (kluster), from 1971 on as a duo with dieter moebius (cluster), and since 2010 as a duo with with onnen bock (qluster). bock (born 1973) and roedelius have been meeting up to explore new musical directions together since 2007. fragen is the first part of an exceptional trilogy, a grandiose new beginning, backed up by forty years of tradition.

deep space orchestra have been carving out a very nice name for themselves over the past year, and alongside the likes of cottam and krl it&#700,,,s safe to say that they are helping to establish an exciting new movement of raw, detroit-inspired house. the diy approach is very much a part of their ethic, as is the underground feel and aesthetic which imbues their own use of weapons label as well as their recent releases on similarly minded vinyl-orientated labels such as foto and kirk degiorgio&#700,,,s legendary art. the release we have here is perhaps their most refined music yet, showing a development in their production level on two tracks which are brimming with a warmth and fatness whilst retaining that critical raw edge which only a handful of the most exacting producers seem capable of. lo pan builds around a fat, bouncing bass line and a brilliantly lilting groove created by straight 808 hats and shuffling shakers. the feel keeps shifting throughout the song, sometimes superswung, sometimes straight and driving, all the while simple detroit strings build and analogue arps are layered up building the tension in the arrangemen

new vocal 12 inch on wph....tip! it should be obvious by now that we here at the wph camp are keen on real vocals. so while the rest of the world is busy sampling and recycling vocals from the past, leave it up to us to pick out those tracks that feature fresh and home made vocals. although wph 012 by dj yellow also indulges in a little bit of recycling, or rather good old fashioned licensing. the title track >night in tranzylvania< has been a huge favourite with label boss red d and his belgian crowd ever since it was released on the criminally overlooked album >intermission< on project recordings in 2008. but now it is back in all its glory and supported by >angels part< a killer ambient track which also featured on that album album, >je tm<, a new track by dj yellow and a russ gabriel remix of the title track.

shadow ray is best known in house music circles as the co-producer of the oasis 1, 13, 13 1/2 and 14 releases with omar s, although he is also well known to the ryan correctional facility for more nefarious reasons. the detroit-based producer has spent the past four years at ryan earning not only a hard knocked life but a trade in sound engineering. that was until alex smith (aka omar s) made a presentation to the facility s parole board to commission a remix of his recent hit >heres your trance now dance< as part of rays work release program! rumour has it the parole board was inhabited by at least one old school house head, and we re delighted to see alexs idea come to fruition, with shadow ray really nailing it with this remix. staying true to original s shimmering melody, ray opts to bolster the bottom end with a raw bassline that creates a nice, fat rolling groove

2nd part with more prime time techno cuts

there are few labels who will get the opportunity to work extensively with the most dynamic remixers, dj s and producers of this decade. bbe seems to keep coming up trumps. grammy award winner louie vega has been on top of the dj game for over 2 decades. he gained further notoriety as part of the collective known as ‘masters at work’ with kenny gonzalez form a formidable partnership reminiscent of the greatest producers of yesteryear. quincy did it with chaka khan, james ingram, al jarreau and the brothers johnson, while gamble and huff did it with archie bell and the drells, harold melvin and the bluenotes, teddy pendergrass and mfsb.

black vinyl , versalifes n.t.a. part 2 is taking us further down deep into the night! this is some of the at widest, cleanest, most absorbing electro, techno tracks we have heard in a while! especially the b-side tracks oozes twilight suave and atmosphere with its precise electro pulse and caressing midnight sounds. versalife is creating a setting with sounds radiating the midnight atmosphere that reflects the twin peak-esque life on a almost deserted windy dutch coastal island where the clouds rush through the dark night time skies projecting all variations of grey and black on the mystifying dunes. futuristic electro techno tracks with emotive synth work created with exploratory imagination.

after the very well-received work >in g< borngräber & strüver have not been resting on their laurels but made >reise< (journey). they extended the concept of >21th century electro motoric kraut< on the new album >urlaub< and added their preference for disco music. like a friend of the label said: >reise – sounds like a composition for the 20th birthday of carl craigs planet e<. borngräber & strüver have consistently worked on developing their minimalist compositions without taking into consideration conventions. the nearly 17-minute >reise< that starts extremely held back, grows into a groovy trip you can hardly escape. >berlin tribal music< has a radically minimalist approach and a surprising break like a portal to a parallel dimension. the last part of the album >dancing queen< has nothing to do with abba. the piece is a missing link between electronic h-pop and groovy club sounds.

>i didnt really hit you. i just highfived your face< thats the slogan of oliver schories. influenced by many different styles, the young hamburg-based producer found his home on labels like ostwind rec, parquet rec or style rockets in 2010. his new ep for rennbahn rec. is typical for his own style. outtake is riddled with many deep elements and a warm mood, on the other hand bremen vs. hamburg is a driving techno track. emotional and energetic is the best description for this one. andreas henneberg, well known as a part of the duo the glitz throw in a remix of outtake, which is definitely the one for the dancefloor. he captured the essential elements and arranged them with his own flavour.
